Primary Rate Interface (PRI) is a telecommunications interface utilized for carrying voice and data transmissions between a network and a user, employing Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) technology. PRI is widely deployed to provide telecommunication services to offices, offering a robust and efficient means of communication. In the United States and Canada, PRI is typically based on the T-carrier system, specifically the T1 line. This T1 line comprises 24 channels, each capable of transmitting voice or data independently, thereby allowing for simultaneous communication across multiple channels. In contrast, European implementations of PRI utilize the E-carrier system, particularly the E1 line. The E1 line consists of 32 channels, providing a higher capacity compared to the T1 line commonly used in North America. This increased channel count enables European PRI setups to accommodate greater volumes of voice and data traffic, catering to the needs of larger offices and organizations.
